What is Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy)?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

During the breast uplift surgery, the skin will be pulled taught to elevate and enhance the appearance of the breast. The nipple will be re-positioned so it sits facing directly forward to create a youthful aesthetic.

The Benefits of Breast Uplift

The main benefits of a breast uplift are aesthetic. Many of our patients tell us how the breast lift surgery has increased their self esteem. Sagging, pendulous breasts can take their toll on a woman’s self confidence. With firmer, more youthful looking breasts a woman’s confidence and self esteem is highly elevated. While a breast uplift won’t result in larger breasts, they will feel firmer and look more voluminous.

Some of the benefits of a breast lift surgery include:

  • Rejuvenated firmer breasts
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem
  • Ability to wear a wider choice of clothing including tops without a bra

Sagging breasts are a culmination of many things from age and genetics to pregnancy and gravity but a breast lift procedure can help you to turn back the clock.

Breast Uplift Surgery – What the Procedure Involves

Prior to the surgery, Dr Prashant Yadav will discuss with you about the results you want to achieve and the best surgical technique for you. If you decide to have breast uplift (mastopexy) surgery, it will usually take around two hours under general anaesthetic. Then you will have a one or two night stay in one of our Dezire clinics at Pune, Bangalore, Delhi or Gurgaon before you complete your recovery at home.

During the procedure Dr Prashant Yadav will make several incisions on your breasts to remove and tighten the skin. The number of incisions made will differ from person to person as every breast lift procedure is tailored to the exact requirements of the patient. The incisions are usually made around the areola and run vertically down the breast and occasionally will run along the crease of the breast. In order to get the results you desire, you may have opted to have a breast reduction or breast augmentation at this stage as well as a breast lift. Your nipples will be re-positioned and sometimes the areola area around your nipple will be reduced in size to suit your new breast shape.

Am I Suitable for a Breast Uplift?

Having sagging breasts can have a negative effect on your self-confidence and self esteem. If you experience one or more of the following factors because of the appearance of your breasts, you are a suitable candidate for breast lift surgery:

  • Drooping or sagging breasts
  • A lack of firmness
  • Nipples pointing downwards
  • Changes to the appearance following weight loss

There is no age limit in place for breast lift surgery but in order to take part in breast lift surgery, you must be in good health and hold realistic expectations of the procedure. All final decisions with regard to eligibility for surgery will be made by the surgeon. Maintaining your weight can ensure longer lasting results, therefore, if you have any plans for dramatic weight loss or weight gain due to pregnancy it is wise to discuss this with your surgeon as this could have a detrimental effect on the results.

Combining a breast uplift and an enlargement

Solely having a breast enlargement may result in sagging breasts due to increased weight / volume. Hence it may commonly be beneficial to combine the two separate treatments.

The benefits of combining the two procedures as part of one operation will be discussed during your initial  free consultation with the Best surgeon in India for Breast augmentation, Dr Prashant Yadav.

How Much Does a Breast Uplift Cost?

Breast uplift surgery costs start from Rs…. and can vary from person to person depending on your specific requirements. The price includes the surgical procedure itself as well as every step of your cosmetic surgery journey including your care both before and after the surgery. Please note the final cost of surgery will be confirmed at your surgical consultation with Dr, Prashant Yadav.

An important factor in the decision making process is how you will cover the cost of the procedure. We provide our patients with a number of options to make payment simple. You have the option to pay the full amount upfront or you can choose to split the cost into feasible monthly interest free payments. Lastly, you can also choose to pay in smaller installments over a five-year period. Here at Dezire, we are proud to offer an aftercare service that is second to none.We want you to have as much information as possible at your disposal to help you make an informed decision about the procedure. We have put together a step by step guide in terms of what to expect in the various stages of breast lift recovery to help you prepare for the Procedure.

After Surgery

Immediately after surgery, your breasts will feel swollen and sore and there may be some bruising present. We’ll be there to provide pain relief to help with any discomfort. The recovery process is gradual and it may take a few months for your breasts to settle into their new shape and for the scars to start fading.

We’ll talk to you in detail about recovering at home after your mastopexy, so you’ll know how much time to take off work (usually two weeks), what kind of bra to wear for the first few weeks and when you can resume your normal activities like exercise.

Support and compression are of paramount importance in the days following your breast lift surgery and you will be provided with a surgical bra to wear after the procedure for the first 48 hours. This will then be replaced with a sports bra that should be worn for the remainder of the recovery process.

All types of physical exercise or strenuous activity must be put on hold for between four to six weeks. Recovery rates differ from person to person so it is difficult to determine exactly how long it will be until you can return to your usual exercise routine but it is important not to try and rush back into your day to day routine before you are ready.

Before you go home we’ll also give you our 24/7 patient helpline number, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us regarding any concerns. Our clinical team is here to support and advise you. You’ll need to come back to the hospital within two weeks to have your stitches removed when Dr Prashant Yadav  will also check on your overall progress.

Side Effects, Risks and Complications

Side effects and risks include:

  • Swelling and bruising
  • Adverse effects of anaesthetic

FAQs for Breast Uplift

How soon will I be able to see the final results of my breast uplift procedure?

One of the most rewarding aspects of breast reduction surgery is seeing the final result. You will be able to see immediate changes shortly after the breast reduction procedure but post-op swelling may prevent you from seeing the final result for some time. Over time, the swelling will slowly decrease, it can take between six to twelve months for the final results to be seen.

Will my breasts suffer a loss of sensitivity following an uplift?

As with any breast procedure that involves incisions, there is a risk of loss of sensitivity when you undergo breast lift surgery but it is entirely variable from patient to patient. Breast uplift surgery involves the remodeling of the breast tissue and therefore you could experience a change in sensitivity to the nipple area as a result.

Will a breast uplift leave visible scarring?

A breast lift will leave minimal scarring that is permanent but these scars will fade over time. After the surgery, you will find the scars are red but they will often fade to a light pink over the course of twelve months. Efforts will always be made by Dr Prashant Yadav to keep scarring to a minimum.

Will I be required to have additional surgery to keep the shape of my breasts following an uplift procedure?

The results of a breast uplift procedure are long lasting, however, over time the force of gravity will prevent the clock being turned back permanently. Factors such as gravity will cause your breasts to lose fullness as you age and this is something you can discuss with your surgeon prior to the breast lift surgery. As with any surgical procedure, it is important to have realistic expectations and while your breasts will be affected by the aging process, the results of your breast lift will be seen for years to come.

Where will my breast uplift surgery be performed?

The breast lift will be performed at one of our centres with on site operating suite located in Pune, Delhi, Bangalore and Gurgaon.

Can I combine a breast uplift with other breast procedure?

Yes, in many cases it is common to combine a breast uplift with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction depending on your desired results, Along with a  lift, an implant is placed inside the breast tissue to create the appearance of fuller breasts. In the case of a reduction, breast tissue is removed before the skin is removed and tightened to complete the breast lift.

What is the recovery time for a breast uplift?

Immediately after surgery, your breasts will feel swollen and sore and there may be some bruising present. We’ll be on hand to provide pain relief to help with any discomfort. The recovery process is gradual and it may take a few months for your breasts to settle into their new shape and for the scars to start fading.

Will I be able to breast feed following a breast uplift?

If your breasts have completed the development stage, you are able to have a breast lift regardless of your age. Breast lift procedures are most common in women who suffer a loss of elasticity and volume after childbirth but if you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts, you can consider breast lift surgery at any age. It is important to note a breast uplift may result in an inability to effectively breast feed. All final decisions with regard to eligibility for surgery will be made by the surgeon.
